NARRATIVE
In accordance with DepEd Order No. 32, s. 2011, “Policies and Guidelines on Training and Development Programs and Activities,” which mandates every office to ensure the relevance and adequacy of training and development programs for individual personnel, Alicia Vocational School conducted a School-Based Learning Action Cell (SLAC) session aimed at strengthening support systems and improving instructional delivery.
Aligned with DepEd Order No. 35, s. 2016, the SLAC serves as a continuing professional development (CPD) strategy that enhances teaching effectiveness across learning areas through collaborative learning. The school remains committed to empowering teachers and supporting the achievement of quality learning outcomes.
Furthermore, the conduct of this SLAC was also pursuant to Regional Memorandum No. 067, s. 2020, issued by DepEd Regional Office II, which provides suggested procedures for the development of Radio-Based Instruction (RBI) using supplementary learning materials such as textbooks, learners' materials, and worksheets. The Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD) encourages the contextualization and digitization of instructional content for flexible delivery, especially under the new normal.
On January 13, 2022, Alicia Vocational School held a virtual SLAC session via Google Meet, attended by all teaching personnel and staff under the leadership of Dr. Emily O. Benitez, EdD, School Principal.
The program began promptly at 1:00 PM with an attendance check by Mr. Wyner Abalos, followed by an opening prayer led by Ms. Lovely S. Dela Cruz, SST-I. The Makabayan Song was played through a video presentation to set a reflective tone.
The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Josephine M. Ventura, Teacher III, who also serves as the school’s SLAC Coordinator. This was followed by the reading of the session’s objectives and purpose by Mr. Michael S. Martinez, Teacher II, one of the proponents of the SLAC.
In her message, Dr. Emily O. Benitez emphasized the significance of RBI in the context of the pandemic, noting that many learners were unable to attend face-to-face classes regularly. She highlighted the role of radio as an alternative delivery mode to bridge learning gaps and sustain educational continuity.
Two main topics were presented during the session:
1. Mr. Mark R. Claravall, Teacher II
Topics:
The Principles of Radio Scriptwriting and the Basic Radio Script Format
SOA (School-On-Air) for Remote Teaching and Learning
Mr. Claravall delivered a comprehensive and engaging discussion on the fundamentals of writing effective and learner-friendly radio scripts. He emphasized script clarity, relevance, and alignment with the curriculum. His presentation was interactive and informative, prompting several questions from participants, which he addressed with clarity and depth.
2. Mr. Michael S. Martinez, Teacher II
Topic: Guidelines in Preparing the Radio Script with Sample Script
Mr. Martinez discussed practical guidelines and provided a sample radio script to illustrate formatting, tone, pacing, and content structuring. The session sparked active participation and interest among the teachers.
Following the lectures, participants demonstrated their understanding through hands-on activities:
Mrs. Abel M. Pascual effectively demonstrated the process of script writing, showcasing her creativity and application of principles discussed.
Mrs. Cecille V. Fronda, Teacher III and Senior High School Focal Person, also shared her approach and insights into contextualizing RBI scripts based on student needs.
The RBI Script Development SLAC successfully addressed the developmental needs of teachers, particularly in crafting contextualized, curriculum-based, and quality-assured radio scripts for Junior High School and Senior High School learners. Participants left the session equipped with practical knowledge, strategies, and sample materials that they can apply in their respective learning areas.
This initiative not only aligned with DepEd and regional directives but also reaffirmed Alicia Vocational School’s commitment to resilient and inclusive education, ensuring that no learner is left behind—even in the most challenging circumstances.
